Project features
Extensive wetlands, water features and parks will make Playford Alive a truly green place to enjoy. Homes will be surrounded by water-efficient gardens and parkland. There will be habitats for birds and animals and peaceful, relaxing places where people can just sit back and soak it all in.
Tracts of land across Davoren Park, Smithfield Plains and Munno Para will be dedicated to the development of parks and reserves. Streets across the community will be enhanced by trees, improved footpaths and nature strips. Many kilometres of bike paths and public walkways will connect neighbourhoods and expansive public areas
Waterproofing Northern Adelaide is securing the region’s water supply by storing water in underground aquifers. This water can be used in times of shortage to supply sites across the precinct.
Urban wetlands will capture stormwater for cleaning and distribution to public and industrial areas. Key objectives include reducing usage of drinking water for irrigation, maintaining groundwater levels, preventing any impacts on salinity, and controlling flows and volumes to prevent negative impacts on downstream areas.
A potential future project is a recycled water scheme piped to homes through a ‘lilac pipe’ system that will enable new dwellings to have recycled water for flushing toilets and irrigating gardens.
