Playford Alive offers $150,000 for local initiatives
Local sporting, recreational, social, cultural and other organisations with a commitment to the community can today apply for a grant in the second round of the Playford Alive Initiatives Fund.
Housing Minister Jennifer Rankine today announced that $150,000 will be available for those groups with links to the Playford Alive project to make their ideas a reality.
“I would encourage community groups, not-for-profit organisations and others with a strong commitment to the community to apply for grants to help sustain or develop local projects that are going to benefit the Playford Alive area.” Ms Rankine said.
“The successful first round of grants saw $205,000 distributed among 18 organisations that support the local community – and during the 15-year life of the Playford Alive project, it is estimated that $5 million will re-invested into the community through the Initiatives Fund,” she said.
The Smith Family received $29,730 towards meeting specific literacy needs in the community while Burundian community groups receive three small grants totalling $11,200 towards their Multicultural Independence Day Celebration.
Other recipients were the Housing Industry Association Youth Build Playford Alive project, who received $50,000 and Youthinc Incorporated receiving a $30,000 grant.
“The projects are selected because they make a positive contribution to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the growing community in Playford Alive,” Ms Rankine said.
“To qualify for a grant, applicants must provide a matching contribution towards their submitted project. This can include in-kind support such as volunteer contributions, a financial contribution or professional services that have been secured.”
City of Playford Mayor Martin Lindsell, Chair of the Initiatives Fund Management Board, welcomed the second round of grants: “The Board anticipates the same quality and diversity of applications as in the first round.
“We welcome applications from groups who are located or operate in or around the Playford Alive project area,” Mayor Lindsell said.
Applications are particularly encouraged for initiatives, projects, events or activities that:
- Demonstrate a strong partnership approach.
- Support and strengthen community groups.
- Support and encourage volunteers.
- Encourage participation in community life.
- Encourage and support arts and cultural development.
- Encourage and promote healthy lifestyles – in particular projects that increase leisure, recreational and sporting opportunities.

The Initiatives Fund receives 1% of the price of sales from land sold in the greenfields and urban renewal area being developed by the Land Management Corporation (LMC) and Department for Families and Communities (DFC).
A similar contribution will come from land on greenfields sites sold to third party developers for new housing.
