Playford Alive achieves another milestone with Display Village opening
South Australia's largest single urban development - Playford Alive - will achieve another milestone with the opening this weekend of the biggest display village ever to be seen in Adelaide.
The opening of Playford Alive’s Living Showcase is one of the most significant advances seen yet at the development, and is set to coincide with the opening of the new Land Sales and Information Centre.
Wayne Gibbings, Chief Executive of the Land Management Corporation (LMC) said the display village was another visible sign the transformation of northern Adelaide was taking shape.
“Playford Alive is one of the biggest urban renewal projects in Australia and is rejuvenating around 1,000 hectares of land in the north of Adelaide,” he said.
“The opening of the Living Showcase is the first opportunity for potential home buyers at Playford Alive to see what is possible in this ground-breaking new development.
“Everything from single storey villas, courtyard homes and traditional homes, to affordable apartments and Mews’ products located over garages will be on offer. The affordable homes aspect is vitally important and will allow many people to move off of the rental round-about into their own home in the revitalised north.
“With 31 homes completed and ready to open – and another 21 on the way - potential home buyers can source inspiration from the Living Showcase displays.”
Fourteen of Adelaide’s leading builders are involved with the Living Showcase and have designed energy efficient, quality homes that will transform the region.
“Every builder has designed at least one home with a six-star energy rating system (AccuRate) and this is in keeping with the overall planning of the development, which is aiming to provide sustainable, energy efficient living in the north,” Mr Gibbings said.
“The Living Showcase is adjacent to a 9-hectare park incorporating a wetlands area as part of the Waterproofing Northern Adelaide project, and will provide recreation and leisure opportunities as well as recycling of water for irrigation and other usage.
“The wetlands are starting to take shape and will make an enormous difference in how the area will look but also in how we capture stormwater in an area that will eventually house around 40,000 residents.”
The new Living Showcase will be the centrepiece for the revival and renewal of the area, with the project taking in existing suburbs of Smithfield Plains and Davoren Park, as well as adjoining land in Munno Para, Munno Para West, Andrews Farm and Penfield.
“Playford Alive signals a new future for the area that will see thousands of new homes built and a thousand more homes undergo renovation and renewal,” Mr Gibbings said.
“Importantly, this work will include a new suburban hub with all the services that people need – from a GP super clinic to schools, shops and childcare.
“There are currently around 13,000 people who live in the area and over the next 15 years, Playford Alive will see around 8,000 new homes and 40,000 residents. The Living Showcase is really the first tangible signs of the project’s progress.”
Playford Alive is a 15-year project, developed in partnership with the State Government (Land Management Corporation and Department of Families and Communities), City of Playford and the people of Playford. As well as transforming the area, the project will offer a range of training and employment pathways for local residents. In addition 1% of all sales at Playford Alive will go back into a community development fund.
The Playford Alive Living Showcase Display Village will ultimately feature 14 of South Australia’s leading builders, with 52 homes on display. The Display Village will officially open on Saturday June 12 and is located off Curtis Road, in Munno Para West.
