Million dollar fund open for ideas
Residents and groups living in South Australia's largest redevelopment are being encouraged to submit ideas to a million dollar Community Development Fund, Northern Suburbs Minister Jennifer Rankine announced today.
Playford Alive is the billion dollar massive urban renewal and new housing development project taking place in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.
The State Government has today opened submissions for the Playford Alive Initiatives Fund – which will receive 1% of the price of sales from land sold in the greenfields and urban renewal area over the 15-year life of the project.
“The aim of the fund is to encourage community groups and not-for-profit organisations to apply for grants or sponsorship to help sustain or develop local community projects and activities,” she said.
“What we know about the people in this area is they have a deep commitment to their suburbs and I’m thrilled this money is available to make the regeneration project even better.
“This community is strong with a strong ethic of volunteering and helping itself so this fund will give people the means to make a difference.”
Ms Rankine said applications are particularly encouraged for initiatives, projects, events or activities that:
- Support and strengthen community groups
- Support and encourage volunteers
- Encourage participation in community life
- Encourage and support arts and cultural development
- Encourage and promote healthy lifestyles– in particular projects that increase leisure, recreational and sporting opportunities
- Encourage partnerships that build a safe community
- Encourage and support learning opportunities that meet local community needs
- Promote a positive image of the Playford Alive project
- Support the creation of local employment opportunities
A key principle of the fund is that each applicant must also provide some form of matching funding towards their submitted project, whether as in-kind support such as a volunteer contribution, financial contribution or professional services that have been secured.
The first call for submissions will be made in mid October with a final date for submission of 20 November 2009. A further call for submissions will be made in mid 2010.
