FAQ

Home > FAQ

Q: What is the Playford Alive Project?

The project will cover approximately 1000 hectares in Northern Adelaide (including Munno Para, Andrews Farm, Smithfield Plains and Davoren Park) located about 30 kilometres north of Adelaide.

The existing suburbs of Smithfield Plains and Davoren Park will experience extensive upgrading, while new residential areas will be established in Munno Para and Andrews Farm.

The project will deliver:

  • improved or new public housing
  • construction of more than 8000 new houses
  • better education and job opportunities
  • improved public transport
  • improved health and other community services
  • improved quality of open spaces
  • a stronger voice for the local community and more opportunities for you to have a say.

Q: Who is involved in the Playford Alive Project?

The project involves the State Government’s Land Management Corporation and Department for Families and Communities (DFC), the City of Playford and the community.

The Land Management Corporation (LMC) is the Project Manager and will work closely with the other partners in the project. LMC has key responsibility for delivering construction, retail development, marketing and sales of new land, facilitating the improvement of other community services, public transport, local services (utilities), traffic management and administration of the project.

Housing SA, a division of DFC, will redevelop or upgrade public housing within the area.

The City of Playford is a partner in the project, with responsibility for installing and upgrading infrastructure such as roads, footpaths, parks, gardens and stormwater systems. The City of Playford will also ensure that the community continues to be an active partner of the project as well as facilitate community initiatives including Life Long Learning, youth training and employment, community development and delivery of community services for the aged and frail.

The project partners have been working closely with community leaders and residents and will continue to do so throughout the life of the project.

Q: What new schools are planned?

Planning is underway for two new schools to be built in the Playford Alive project area, including a new birth to year 7 and a new birth to year 12 school. These are anticipated being opened in 2010/11.

You will be updated on the progress of this project as work continues.

However if you have any questions, please call the Education Works Information Line on 1800 669 224 or you can log on to www.educationworks.sa.edu.au.

Q: How many Housing SA homes will be built as part of the project?

Housing SA will build more than 500 homes primarily for the relocation of tenants.

Q: Will any Housing SA houses be refurbished?

Yes, it is planned to refurbish a significant number of Housing SA houses.

Q: What will happen to the people living in those Housing SA houses?

Not all Housing SA tenants will be relocated - some home refurbishment work will be undertaken while tenants remain in their home. Where tenants are required to relocate, Housing SA can facilitate the relocation. Housing SA has successfully relocated tenants during similar projects in places like Westwood, Salisbury North, Kilburn, Windsor Gardens and Mitchell Park. A Relocation Officer will consult with each individual tenant regarding the Housing SA Relocation Policy, tenant’s housing needs, preferences for relocation and move back housing. Tenants are also informed of their right to appeal against any decision of Housing SA and the conciliation process available where agreement cannot be reached on relocation.

Q: What happens to empty Housing SA houses?

Housing SA properties that become vacant and cannot be re-let because of their involvement in the urban renewal project will be made secure (boarded up and services disconnected) and maintained in an orderly state until either renovation works or demolition can occur.

Q: What will be the benefits of this project for my community?

This project will benefit the local community in a number of ways including by improved housing, retail facilities, public transport and recreation and education facilities. There will be employment opportunities and economic development as well as safe, friendly and energy efficient services and programs in the area.

Environmental sustainability is also a key part of the project and will result in improved parkland areas and walking and cycling trails.

Q: Is the City of Playford running any programs as part of the project which I could get involved in?

Yes, the City of Playford will be inviting the community to get involved. Programs will include:

  • Peachey Voice Radio Program
  • Imagine Peachey Up Your Art Projects
  • Imagine Peachey Website Group
  • Imagine Peachey Information Trailer
  • Friendly Visiting Program
  • Social Inclusion Programs
  • Peachey Connections.
